Two hundred trainers for providing training to Supervisor, Enumerator and GPS takers are now follow eight days training on Census Agriculture 2019 by twenty-two Master Trainers in Dili.

On 15 May 2019 in Dili—Twenty-two of master trainers from Minister of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries together with Minister of Finance through the General Directorate of Statistics starting providing a training on Census Agriculture to 200 trainers at Fundasaun Cristal Dili. These twenty-two trainers will again transfer the knowledge that they have gained to Supervisor, Enumerators and GPS takers in coming weeks. This kind of training is part of preparation for main Agriculture census. Based on setting schedule that the census of Agriculture will be held on 12 August until 12 October 2019 throughout of the Country.

Mr. Cesar José da Cruz who as a Secretary General for Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries as well as on behalf of Minister of Agriculture by opening his illustration on Agriculture by saying that if you are an expert people you have to eat, if you are politician you have to eat and whatever things that you want to do firstly you have to fill something to your stomach with eating something, and this morning when I came here I have eat a peace of Cassava to fill my stomach so that it will gives me an energy to do my daily works with a good atmosphere. This illustration is pointing to Agriculture is an important information for our government specially to Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries as well to respective relevant ministries. He also by questioning that, why census? He did response that, only with census we now decide politics of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, where shall we bringing this nation, only census we can deeply know that, what is the land size?, what is the vastness of the Timorese ocean? And so on.

The Executive Secretary for first Census Agriculture, Mr. Claudino Ninas Nabais by introducing to all guest and training participants that, the long process of Census Agriculture has been implemented since 2016, in when Timor-Leste government with Food Agriculture Organization decided to implemented First Census of Agriculture in this nation. So in several years we have been prepared so many things like coordination with relevant ministries, based on government resolution No 23/2017 on Census Agriculture that was given a power to teams to preparing such things like; questioners, GPS, CAPI and other technical and logistical issues for carryout the referring census. Now we are ready to implementing first census agriculture in 2019.

Mr. Nabais and Interim Director General of Statistics, Mr. Cristino Gusmao and Representative of FAO, Ms. Paula Lopes da Cruz by emphasizing during the opening ceremony to training of trainers that, please all participants should be focus attending in 8 days training, this training with intention to transfer capacity to you as trainers and also make sure that you all are understand well concepts and definitions in the instruction manual of Census Agriculture as well as main things such as electronic Questionnaire that been installed into Computer Based Assistant Interview (CAPI), GPS measurement and technical instruction that will be require in field. They also further said that we have integrated many questions are really specifics in order to categorize and make sure that those people said that they are agriculture or not, and it will be best identified fully when enumerators proving in details. In a good result of data of the census all enumerators should be brave enough to find any ways capture better information via polite investigation, from that they will share whatever they have in their household, as you may know that those good data are really expected by Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Said Nabais.

In the same occasion Ms. Paula Lopes da Cruz as representative of Food Agriculture Organization by expressing her appreciation to this government of Timor-Leste that has brilliant commitment after several years taking time to decided, and in fact that when decided it becomes a principle priority and it is also come with the budgeting for the census agriculture project, this not like other countries normally run their census budgeting from donors. Our first census Agriculture 2019 is fully support by government RDTL. She further said that this action for me as a Timorese people really proud. Ms. Cruz also by adding that, now FAO’s budgeting participation very minim, we were supporting in piloting census activity in last year and for this main enumeration period we are only contracting two technical assistants to accompany our national team in order to bringing this process of census to the end.
