Dili, January 18, 2018 – The Directorate General of Statistics under portfolio of Ministry Planning and Finance officially launching of two publications as such; Business Activity Survey of Timor-Leste 2016 and Timor-Leste National Accounts 2000-2016 by General Director of Statistics, Mr. Elias dos Santos Ferreira with Timor-Leste President for Chamber Commerce and Industry, Mr. Oscar Lima as well as others representatives from line ministries, BPA, World Bank, BNCTL, Directors from companies, UN Agencies, Telecommunications, donators, civil society, Dean from faculties of Economy of all university in Timor-Leste and also friends from Media. The event was taking place at Directorate General of Statistics meeting room of Cai-Coli Street.

The main objective of Business Activity Survey (BAS) is to measure the structure and economic performance of the on-petroleum formal business sector in Timor-Leste. The survey scope includes the formal business sector of Timor-Leste excluding oil-producing businesses. A total of 2,902 businesses were selected for enumeration. There are two types of estimates are produced: employment and financial data items, and economic data items. In addition to that the data are also presented separately by selected industries (manufacturing, construction, retail and wholesale trade, accommodation and food services, financial and insurance, transport, information and communication, and other industries) and by geography (Dili and Municipalities outside Dili) for these estimate types. The Business Activity Survey data are a key input into the Timor-Leste National Accounts.

Based in the fact shows that Timor-Leste overall Growth Domestic Product (GDP) for 2016 increased by 0.8 per cent in real terms with that the OIL GDP decreased 4.0 per cent and the NON-OIL GDP increased 5.3 per cent in 2016. Comparing to Timor-Leste Growth Domestic Product in year of 2015 was 20.9 and OIL-GDP was 46.5 and NON-OIL GDP 4.0 if we turned into 2016 there is change in the number of GDP. Mr. Ferreira Said.
On the other hand National Director for Economic and Social Statistics, Mr. Cristino Gusmão on his early report by saying that, activity of Business Activity Survey and also National Accounts are linked each other.

Mr. Oscar Lima said that the release publication was belonging to the Statistics. Chamber Commerce and Industry present just to accompany Directorate General of Statistics under portfolio of Ministry of Finance to launching the Business Activity Survey and Timor-Leste National Accounts. As you may know that, BAS data was supply by Chamber Commerce and Industry. Mr. Lima added that the launching publication is for 2016, publication of 2017 still not, and we believe that 2017 will also released soon.
Director General of Statistics on behalf of Minister of Finance finally would like to express his immense gratitude to the business community and the other entities for its support of these surveys and the specific businesses that provided us with detailed information about their activities.
