Dili, 09 July 2019, Around ten of Flinders University students are accompany with one of their lecture visiting the General Directorate of Statistics Timor-Leste.
The objective of these students in Timor-Leste is to develop graduate skills with a specific focus on cross-cultural communication and research skills. Mr. Udoy Saika as Flinders University Lecture by stating that these students will pair with local Timorese students and immersed in local student life. It combines a two weeks’ intensive field work experience in Timor-Leste with inter-disciplinary learning at the students’ home institution to develop; students’ academic and practical understanding of development issues facing Timor-Leste and graduate skills for functioning effectively in a globalized environment.
In the same occasion Professor Saikia also by saying that, in Flinders University we also teaching them concerning Timor-Leste, but for sure they have not known how Timor-Leste is nation look like, in terms of the culture and so on.
In the event of the visit the General Director of Statistics, Mr. Elias dos Santos Ferreira was share with students a results of the Timor-Leste Population and Housing Census 2015 as well as analytical reports of Mortality and Fertility.
Mr. Ferreira also further said that in several years ago this University has already been made a cooperation with GDS through youth wellbeing survey for youngsters between aged (15 – 34). On the other hand, GDS recognize that this cooperation is really important in order to improve our Timorese capacity, so that in the future with this kind of cooperation we can send our staff to go and study at Flinders University.
