Dili, March 15, 2018 – Functionaries of General Directorate of Statistic was conducted sharing knowledge and information from an overseas training, workshop and seminars. The objective from these sharing as part one of the most significant steps in the capacity in producing an official statistics for monitoring and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Furthermore the identification of approximately 232 indicators for monitoring the SDGS target, beside that also to compiling and forecasting Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The sharing was attending by General Director of Statistics Mr. Elias dos Santos Ferreira, Representatives from JICA, All National Directors at GDS and all staffs, the event took place at the GDS Conference room Cai-coli Street opposite of RTTL broadcasting centre.
Mr. Jacob Da Costa is sharing on the Improving capability in Producing Official Statistics for Monitoring the Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The objective from this training to capacity and monitoring census data, survey and other source data, identification of approximately 232 indicators for monitoring SDG target, disaggregate indicators relevant by income, sex, age, race, ethnicity, migratory, status, disability and geographic location or other characteristics. He also mentioned about Action Plan by this training, there are some responsibilities to be improved. First, check the questionnaires of the census, survey and administrative data forms. Secondly metadata, reference and data processing and tabulation in the census, survey and administrative data. And the third, sharing the result with official in charge of SDGs.
In the other hand there is also sharing knowledge on compiling and forecasting Growth Domestic Product (GDP) by Ms. Faviana Bosco and Mrs. Marciana Urbano by stating that the purpose of the workshop was to enhance the quality of the measurement of GDP and GDP forecasts through knowledge sharing, beside that for GDP compilers, GDP users and providers of key source data to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the compilation and uses of GDP. They also reveal by suggesting through recommendations to all National Statistics Offices to be followed such as; capacity to independently produce GDP estimates is crucial, GDP forecasters need your knowledge on data and methodology, preliminary estimates could be produced, publish data on website in an Excel format and rounded to an appropriate level and we cannot give empirical based advice without your data.
The General Director of Statistics, Mr. Ferreira in his opportunity said with the training that related to the statistics as an opportunity for all staff to capacity knowledge and understanding in producing official statistics. These training will be continued in the future for all areas like economic, social, methodology, system & report and also for cartographic mapping unit. Lastly Mr. Ferreira would like to express his immense gratitude to the GDS teams and also very especially goes to The Japanese International Agency (JICA) by supporting in provide various training, workshop, seminars as well as all necessary equipment that been donated to us in the past years.
