Dili, 25 November 2019, the twenty-five students are from University National of Timor-Leste (UNTL) specially from faculty of economy visit the General Directorate of Statistics, Minister of Finance, in this visit with an intention to know deeply GDS’s goals, vision and mission especially in the economic sector. The referring meeting was led by Mr. Silvino Lopes as National Director for System and Report at the GDS Meeting Room.
Mr. Lopes explaining that the goals of GDS’s leading and coordinating the official statistical system of the county. The mandate of the GDS such as; 1. The GDS is responsible for ensuring general guidance and integrated coordination in relation to all Ministry services with competences in the fields of Statistics, 2. Coordinating and designing the official statistics system of the country, so as to ensure its coherence and rationality; GDS Vision is a professional, impartial, credible and trusted, and GDS mission is to leading and coordinating the official statistical system of the country, ensuring, sensitizing and encouraging decision-making by key stakeholders in statistical service.
In the same occasion a student point-out the question to Mr. Lopes that, how can statistics views about Timor-Leste’s economic, in which now its economic really dominated by Chinese? Mr. Lopes by clearly stating that, GDS has no competency to regulate such things as you are mentioned, it is a competency on the certain ministry to cope with it. If the question that you are referring to the economical data, for sure we can find the answer and handed it back to you in a short term. Normally, CPI and other economical issues we also approached to the line ministries to have closed cooperation and collaboration to finalized the issues that raise-in. So, if any question that is not belongs to us, and we basically refer to the certain ministry or organization to respond.
