Unicef hands over 3 sets of Laptops as well as Statistical Stata Software to GDS

Díli, 25 October 2021, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Chief of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Social Policy Ms. Emmanuelle Collet handed over 3 sets of Laptops as well as Statistical Stata Software to The Director General of Statistics Timor-Leste, Mr. Elias dos Santos Ferreira in this afternoon. The event was held at the GDS REHA Conference Room, Caicoli, Dili.

In an introduction Ms. Collet from UNICEF said that, she is very pleased to come to GDS today, in order to conducting handed over 3 sets of laptops and Statistical Stata software for data science. Besides that she also further said that, UNICEF partnership with Ministry of Finance through General Directorate of Statistics and signed an agreement bi-annual (Rolling Work Plan), and another activity is handed over an equipment of information technology such as laptops, monitors and acessories ICT as well as Statistical Stata software in order to fasilitating to analyse data and presenting data.

Ms. Collet said that, this support event is really important to facilitate GDS to analyze data and made an estimation to measures poverty, especially multidimensional in Timor-Leste. UNICEF also support Technical Assistant to General Directorate of Statistics in a way how to measure multidimensional poverty. This Multidimensional poverty measures is important for the children, as you may know that the poverty is not only for those don’t have money, but it is also for those who doesn’t access to health and education and the others rights of the children. Added Ms. Emmanuelle Collet.

In the same ocasion the General Director of Statistics, Mr. Elias dos Santos Ferreira and Ms. Emmanuelle Collet also shard the same thoughts that, all the equipment as mentioned above will fasilitating and will also be supporting national survey as Census Population and Housing Timor-Leste, Timor-Leste Demographic Health and Survey and Timor-Leste Living Standard Survey that will come, so that GDS will analyize internally in a quick manner.

The Chief of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Social Policy, Ms. Emmanuelle Collet also highlights that, UNICEF ready and will continue providing support to Ministry of Finance via General Directorate of Statistics in a way of collecting an information, analyze and informing to users or public at large. Ms. Collet said that, i’m expecting our team work in preparing and produce evidence in a way of helping the decision makers to make their plan and also to do their political decision to improve people is life, especially for the well being the Timorese children.

The General Director, Mr. Ferreira also used this opportunity to extend his especial thank to UNICEF for allways support GDS not only now, but UNICEF helping us since 2002. Mr. Ferreira also said thanks to Mr. Joao da Costa for his willingnes of providing technical assisstant to GDS for a long period.
